Patna: More than six hundred madrassas will soon receive grants-in-aid from the state government.

Ahead of the assembly elections, Nitish Kumar government on Monday approved the grants-in-aid to 609 more madrassas across the state, according to a Times of India report.

Previously on August 27, Bihar State Madrassa Teachers' Association had protested against non-payment of their dues for the past two years. The association had alleged that only the teachers of 205 madrassas were getting a regular salary. A total of 2,459 madrassas are registered with the Bihar State Madrassa Education Board.

The government notification says that the teachers and other employees working in the sanctioned posts in 609 madrassas will be entitled to get the salary from the government with effect from September 1, 2015.

These 609 madrassas are located across the state in districts like Araria, Darbhanga, East Champaran, West Champaran, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Siwan, Samastipur, and Banka, as per TOI report.
