TS Thakur to be next Chief Justice

New Delhi: With Chief Justice of India HL Dattu retiring on December 2, Justice TS Thakur is all set to replace him.

Following the customary tradition of naming the successor, HL Dattu, on Wednesday, recommended the name of Justice Thakur, the senior most judge as his heir.

The Centre will now process the recommendation and then send it for approval of the President and then a notification will be issued.

Justice Thakur, who retires on January 3, 2017, will have a tenure of one year and one month as the Chief Justice of India.

Justice Thakur, who has served as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in 2009.
