New Delhi, March 9, 2017: The central government stated that water levels in 91 reservoirs have declined to 41 percent of their total capacity.

For the week ending on March 2, in accordance to Union Water Resources Ministry, only 64.55 billion cubic metres (BCM) of water was available in these reservoirs.

On 23rd February, 44 percent or 68.741 BCM of the total capacity of 157.799 BCM was stored.

The ministry stated in a statement, "The March 2 stock though was 132 per cent of the storage reported during the corresponding period last year and 102 per cent of the decadal average."

The states which have recorded reduced storage in comparison to the corresponding period last year are Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana have reported a better stock compared to previous year.
