Raipur, July 05, 2017: "What's in a name" is a question for many! A name hardly ever matters that much, one would think. But it is all about popularity for a couple from Chhattisgarh, as they have named their newly born daughter as GST.

According to the reports, the baby's father- Jagdish Prasad Sonwani, a carpenter by profession, has stated that he possessed no information about 'GST' but has been hearing about the term for quite a while.

The child was born on July 1, this year, the morning after the Goods and Services Tax was brought into reality by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ceremony in the Parliament on the midnight of 30th June, mentioned PTI report.

Sonwani, hailing from Basti village of Baikunthpur area in Koriya said, "I thought of making the day (1st July) memorable for my family and entire village when I was blessed with a baby. Therefore I named her as GST."

"My wife, Sarojni (22), and me had heard a lot about GST during past couple of days that it will be implemented from 1st July. However we don't have any knowledge about its details or provisions," he was quoted as saying. Sarojini gave birth to 'GST' at a regional government-hospital around 8 am on Monday.

"We (the couple) immediately decided to name the baby as GST. My daughter will continue with this name in school too," 26-year-old Sonwani has asserted.

Reportedly, Gorelal Sauto, the village head, said that the little girl has already become the center of attraction in the village after being named as 'GST'. He further added that, the villagers have been visiting Sonwani's house to bless his family, PTI has reported.

A woman from Rajasthan has also named her child 'GST' after he was born on 1st July.
