Argentine-Israeli pianist to play in mosque, synagogue, church

By NewsGram Staff Writer

Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim will be in Argentina in August to play in a mosque, synagogue and a Catholic church in a symbolic bid to unite the human race.

“Music energises me,” the musician said, adding he will perform at the ‘Festival Barenboim 2015’ together with his West Eastern Divan Orchestra at the King Fahd Islamic Cultural Center of Buenos Aires on August 2, at Templo Libertad synagogue on August 5 and at the Metropolitan Cathedral on August 6.

He and his orchestra will perform on July 24, and again with soloists on August 4, at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires.

Barenboim will be accompanied by Martha Argerich at Teatro Colon on July 25, 29 and 30.

“It’s about time we think of the conflict in the Middle East not as political but as human conflict,” the artist said.

The West Eastern Divan Orchestra, that brings together Israeli and Arab musicians, was created in 1999 along with Palestinian writer Edward Said to demonstrate that coexistence among people in conflict is possible.
