BJP tears into writer Sripal Sabnis for comments about PM

Pune: Bhartiya Janata Party took objection to Marathi Literary Meet Chief and writer Sripal Sabnis' remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Chief Maharashtra BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari criticized Sabnis' comments. He said that the comments were in bad taste and lowered the dignity of the forthcoming 89th edition of All India Marathi Sahitya Sammealan.

Sabnis had recently said that PM Modi could have lost his life during the surprise visit of Pakistan. He had said, "any bullet could have hit him, any bomb could have exploded, and we would have required holding the condolence meetings for Modi instead of poet Mangesh Padgaonkar (who died recently)".

BJP Spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said that no one should make such comments about the PM to gain publicity. He further added that Sabnis' comments lowered the dignity of the post he is holding as the President of the Sammelan. He called the comments 'uncivil and thoughtless'.

The Sammelan had supported the Award Wapasi movement also a few months ago against the rising intolerance in the country.

The local BJP unit held a protest in which they paraded an effigy of the writer on a donkey.

The Marathi literary meet will start from the 15th January in Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune. (Image:sindhudurg.today)
