The mysterious death of UPSC aspirant Rajkumar Jat has taken a disturbing turn, sparking national outrage and political uproar. The 24-year-old from Bhilwara, Rajasthan, was found dead under suspicious circumstances after going missing in Gujarat’s Gondal on March 2, 2025. Police claim he died in a road accident, but his family insists he was murdered following an assault allegedly carried out at the residence of former BJP MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja. The case has resurfaced with growing calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

Family Continues to Seek Justice, Mounting Pressure for CBI Probe

Over two months after the incident, the Jat family has intensified their demand for a CBI investigation. On social media, #JusticeForRajkumar trended for the fourth time. Sister Pooja Jat released a video message claiming, "My brother was murdered by Ganesh, son of former MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja." She criticized the authorities, questioning, “Why is IB not behind Ganesh?”

Pooja further revealed that their petition in the Gujarat High Court has seen no progress despite two months passing. “We are just getting dates. No FIR has been registered,” she said. Advocate Jayant Mund, who has supported the family from the beginning, also reported receiving threats and pointed out, "Rajkumar had suffered 42 injury marks on his body... This was not an accident—it was a murder being covered up."

MLAs, MPs, and activists have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, pressing for a CBI investigation. Advocate Mund stated that the family is ready to approach the Supreme Court.

What Happened to Rajkumar Jat?

Rajkumar, who had been living in Gujarat for UPSC preparations, disappeared late on the night of March 2. CCTV footage from the residence of former MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja reportedly showed Rajkumar and his father entering the house after a brief scuffle outside. According to his father Ratanlal Shankarlal Jat, Ganesh Jadeja and his men beat Rajkumar in front of him. That night, Rajkumar told his father he was going back to his room to study. He never returned.

On March 3, Ratanlal discovered Rajkumar’s room empty and filed a missing-person report. On March 9, police informed him that Rajkumar’s body had been found in the Rajkot Government Hospital morgue. Authorities stated he died in a road accident on March 4, based on footage and statements from a bus driver. But the family has disputed this.

Ratanlal claimed, “My worst fear has come true… I strongly suspect my son was murdered.” A written complaint was filed accusing Ganesh Jadeja and others of assault. The postmortem revealed 43 injuries, including trauma in private areas, raising doubts about the police’s accident theory.

Background of Former MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja

Jayrajsinh Jadeja, a powerful figure in Gondal, has been convicted in a murder case and sentenced to life by the High Court, though the sentence is currently stayed by the Supreme Court. Due to his conviction, he was barred from contesting elections and instead secured a BJP ticket for his wife, Geeta Bai Jadeja, who currently serves as the MLA. Their son, Ganesh Jadeja, also has a criminal background and had previously been jailed for assaulting a Dalit youth.

Despite widespread outrage, repeated court petitions, and social media campaigns, no clear progress has been made. No FIR has been registered, and the family continues to wait for justice. As of now, the authorities maintain their stance that Rajkumar died in an accident. The Jat family remains determined to pursue the matter until a transparent investigation is launched.

There is “goonda raj in Gondal," said Ratanlal in a recent video. Justice is being denied. [Rh/VP]
