JNU students oppose invitation to Baba Ramdev

New Delhi: Students groups in Jawaharlal Nehru University have opposed the varsity's move to allow yoga guru Baba Ramdev to address the 22^nd edition of the International Congress of Vedanta organized by the university.

Students called it 'a silent Right-Wing onslaught', and warned that if the invitation is not withdrawn, university authorities will face protests.

The special center for Sanskrit studies is organizing the convention in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced sciences Dartmouth, United States, and the Centre for Indic Studies, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

Baba Ramdev has been invited to address on the last day of the convention which ends on 30th December.

JNUSU Vice President Shehla Rashid Shora said that Ramdev represent an ideology and it is not right to invite a person with the questionable background to talk in an institution.

Last month Jamia Millia Islamia University also opposed the move to invite PM Narendra Modi.

JNU, a premier university in India is known for strong student politics.

The institute is facing a lot of flak in recent times for the number of sexual harassment cases within the campus.

Students also said that Ramdev is neither a Professor nor an academician so he is not the right person to be invited for the convention.

The University, however, did not take back their invitation, setting the tone for a confrontation.
