Hindus are happiest people in UK: Study

London: A study by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), UK has found that people belonging to the UK Hindu community are the happiest people in the country. The ONS study analyzed happiness and personal well being of more than 300,000 people over three years, between 2012 and 2015.

Here are the highlights of the report:

  • The average happiness rating was 7.38 out of 10.
  • Hindu community scored 7.57 for happiness, well above the average and also highest among all communities.
  • Christians stood second with a score of 7.47.
  • Sikhs and Buddhists scored 7.45 and 7.41 respectively; Jews scored 7.37, which was just below the average.
  • Muslims were the unhappiest people among major religious communities. Their happiness rating was 7.33.
  • People who chose 'any other religion' scored 7.26.
  • People who belonged to 'no religion' were the unhappiest people in UK. They scored just 7.22.
  • The study also measured life satisfaction, worthwhile, and anxiety. The Average rating for life satisfaction, worthwhile, and anxiety was 7.5, 7.8, and 2.9 respectively.
  • Average anxiety rating was highest in the age group 45 to 59 years. Lowest average ratings for life satisfaction and happiness were also recorded by the same age group.
  • Highest average levels of personal wellbeing were shown by people in the age group 65 to 79.
