Devotees worship Ravana at ‘Dashanan’ temple on the occasion of Dussehra

Kanpur, October 11, 2016: On Dussehra, devotees make a beeline for 125-year-old 'Dashanan' temple in the Shivala area to worship Ravana- the demon king.

According to PTI, "A day when most of the people burn effigies of Ravana, we worship the demon king. Dashanan temple was constructed in around 1890 by Maharaj Guru Prasad Shukl. It opens its doors for devotees once in a year on Dussehra," said the organiser of the temple functions, K K Tiwari.

Tiwari said, the main motive behind the construction of the temple was because Ravana was a learned scholar and also one of the biggest devotees of Lord Shiva.

On the occasion of Dussehra, the idol of 'Dashanan' or Ravana- the one with ten heads was decorated which was followed by aarti by the devotees.

To celebrate the festival at the temple the devotees light earthen lamps and also perform religious rituals.

"After Ravana goes up in flames at Ramlila ground here, the doors of the temple are closed for a year," he added.
