Nepal Flash Floods LIVE Updates: Death Toll Reaches 1,003 as Around 4,000 Remain Missing

In a recent update, the death toll in the Nepal flash floods has reportedly crossed 1,000, with more than 4,000 people still reported missing. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that around 1,003 bodies have been recovered following the tragic floods.

The latest updates from the Disaster Authority, Nepal, account to the death of 939 individuals.

The police and army in Nepal has been vigorously running its search operations since the last few days, along with the assistance of other neighboring countries. The search operations have been able to rescue a lot of stranded individuals till now.

At present, the number of missing individuals stand at 3925.

The Ministry of External Affairs have provided a detailed list on the number of Indian Nationals being rescued.

As per the MEA's update, 149 Indian Nationals have been rescued in Nepal as of 1730 hrs on 30 August, 2026.

Death toll in Nepal has reached 903 and 4247 people are missing, as reported by the Official authorities in Nepal.

The Police in Nepal and other government officials have publicly informed that the death toll stands at 788, along with a missing count of 2500.

The Ministry of External Affairs, India, also shared a list on Sunday, August 31, listing the 149 Indian nationals who have been rescued

An exclusive report by Reuters has stated that the devastation caused by the Nepal flash floods might cost $4–5 billion to rebuild. Nepal Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle told the news agency on August 29, 2026, that, “We will require much less than what we needed for the 2015 earthquake. Loss and damage is being assessed.”

Sharing the estimated amount for the restoration of the affected regions following the devastating flash floods that hit the region on August 26, 2026, Reuters reported that the estimated cost is equivalent to around one-tenth of the economy.

In a recently communicated information by the Nepal Police, around 616 people have died in the flash floods.

The Flash floods, which also encompass the region of Tibet, has witnessed 7 fatalities till now, reports Chinese State Media.

Days after a tsunami-like wave of water and debris slammed against the Himalayan region, rescue teams in both Nepal and China are working towards locating thousands of missing people. As on Friday, August 28, 2026, the missing persons count as soared well past over 2,400, with emergency teams recovering 586 bodies.

Nepal’s disaster authority has added 933 hydropower workers to a missing persons list, that already includes including trekkers and pilgrims to Tibet’s sacred Mount Kailash.

The Nepal police have confirmed deaths of 547 people in the flash floods, while Chinese authorities earlier confirmed five more deaths, making the total death count of 552.

In a list released by the Nepal tourism board on Friday, August 28, 2026, it was shown that 121 foreign nationals have been rescued so far, out of which 85 are identified as Indians.

Meanwhile, New Delhi confirmed to have received 21 rescued Indians back home. Randhir Jaiswal, Spokesperson for Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed their arrival in Delhi, claiming that the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assisted them at the airport. Addressing a press briefing, Jaiswal said, "21 Indian nationals landed in Delhi from Kathmandu. They are from Tamil Nadu. Our ambassador met them in Kathmandu yesterday."

According to authorities in Nepal and China, as reported by NDTV, at least 472 people have been killed in the devastating flash floods. The report also states that 1,468 people have been reported missing as rescue operation continues in the Himalayan region.

Most of those displaced were foreign tourist, including Mountain Trekkers and Hindu pilgrims. According to media reports, Indians make up the largest number among the foreign nationals. Nepal's new tourism board's data, as quoted by NDTV, shows 178 Indian nationals are missing, while 11 have been rescued.

According to a report by BBC News, the Nepal Police has informed that the death toll has risen to at least 389 as of now.

Additionally, Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has reportedly informed that around 910 people are missing of which 517 are foreign nationals, 44 members of the Nepal Army and 28 Nepal police officers.

However, due to the lack of proper connectivity and mobility, it is not yet possible to report an exact data, and might have overlapping within the same, says BBC News.

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah visited the flood-affected Nuwakot district on August 27, 2026. As per a report by news agency ANI, Shah reached an Army training centre to review the situation after devastating floods hit the region. The Guardian reported that the confirmed death toll from the Nepal flash floods has reached 332 so far, with more than 900 people still missing. Extensive efforts are underway to provide medical assistance to the injured and locate the missing people.

The Nepali police have confirmed that the highest number of bodies have been recovered from Chitwan district, with the number standing at 108.

In a recent development regarding the Nepal flash floods, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal took to X, where he shared details about the rescue of 21 Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu who were part of the pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

He also said in a press briefing that, as of now, around 200 Indians have sought assistance in Tibet, while 288 Indian nationals remain uncontactable in Nepal. 

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has confirmed that more than 300 Indian nationals have been reported missing. As per reports, most of the missing individuals were pilgrims travelling for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. “Thousands of families have lost homes and are missing as of now. We are still trying to ascertain the full extent of the disaster,” said Khanal.

Videos emerging from ground-zero showcase the devastation the flash floods have wrecked across Nepal. Within minutes, the once-lush river plains of Bhote Koshi were flooded with a torrential burst of water and debris, sweeping everything in its path and leaving destruction in the wake.
