New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should work in tandem. “The PM as well as the CM have been elected to their respective houses for the first time. They will have to strike a balance,” Mahajan said at the two-day orientation program for Delhi assembly members.

Kejrwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party in the February polls, has accused Modi of interfering in the functioning of the Delhi government. In an oblique reference, she asked the AAP to desist from staging protests. “It’s fine that until now you were protesting. But there is a difference between a speech given at crossroads and things spoken in the assembly,” she said.

Why the speaker do not state loud and clear that this is the first time since 1947 a party has emerged in the political scene of India that has taken a bold stand against corruption and resisting all opposition against that stand. First time a party has declared that “It is the people who develop a country not Government”. First time a party has taken a stand in favor of women’s dignity and security. First time a party has sincerely tried and actually reduced the ever increasing price of electricity and water. First time a party has introduced the system of students loan. First time the elected members of a party have tried to emphasize the significance of remembering freedom fighters as a part of culture. Let the speaker declare that this is the only party that seems to understand that Indians are one of the most brilliant nations on earth. It does not befit them to remain subservient and an appendage of the West. The ideology Indians preach, language they speak, religion they pursue, technology they innovate; whole world will pay attention to that because Indians are one sixth of the world. It looks as if- it is a party that seems to have emerged in the India’s political scene to echo the precepts of Swami Vivekananda who said- “You are a lion cub why are you wrapping yourself in sheep skin ? Know thyself”. Does the speaker have the courage and the wisdom to declare this simple truth? I guess not- then she would not be allowed to sit in that chair.

“The eclipse reminds us that that we are travelling in space while residing on the earth…. Friends, India has an ancient and glorious history of astronomy. Our connection with the twinkling stars in the sky is as old as our civilisation. Many of you might be aware that at various places in India, there are magnificent observatories (Jantar Mantars) – which are worth seeing. And these observatories have a deep bond with astronomy. Who doesn’t know about the prodigious talent of the great Aryabhatta,” PM said. (IANS)
