There's no denying that the high levels of tension and worry accompany examinations. This tension, along with the stress and ongoings of daily life, may be quite exhausting for students. When we have a lot to learn but just a limited amount of time, studying for an exam can be difficult. While some people study faster and more effectively if they have a suitable study plan, many others end up studying less and worrying more about the outcome of the exam.
Luckily, there are tried-and-true methods for improving your memory and reducing tension before an exam. These strategies are especially useful for people who believe their natural memory isn't strong enough.
The following are five study hacks that will assist anyone in preparation for an examination.
#1 Make A Study Plan: Make a study plan before you sit down to take up a book and begin studying. It will provide a better picture of what has to be done and when. List the names of the subjects and topics, prioritise the importance of studying each subject, calculate the number of days until the exam, and strategically assign a topic to each subject. Plan out group study time and breaks, set aside study hours every day.

#2 Organize The Study Area: When we are in a pleasant and comfortable setting, we are able to focus and learn at our best. Find the ideal place in the home, hostel, or room that has good lighting, fresh air, and is quiet. The best places to study are those with the least amount of distraction. To eliminate distractions, keep the environment as clear of unnecessary stuff as possible. While studying, turn off your phone or keep it on flight mode.

#3 Speak Aloud While You Study: This is a typical tactic employed by people. The term used by psychologists to describe this concept is "production effect." This effect claims that if a person says something out loud, they are far more likely to remember it. So, if you're having trouble remembering a topic, repeat the crux of it aloud. You'll be amazed at how much better you'll recall this topic when it exam time.

#4 Remember To Take Regular Breaks: When the human brain is given breaks on a regular basis, it performs optimally. Studies have proved that studying in small intervals with frequent pauses is more efficient than studying for extended periods without breaks. Forcing ourselves to study while our minds are drowsy or inactive will simply exhaust it further. So, take regular pauses, go for a short walk, close your eyes or gaze out at a distance to relax your eyes and mind.

#5 Check Previous Year Questions: After you have finished studying read over previous year's question papers. It will not only make us aware of how well prepared we are for the examination, but it will also provide us with a way to learn about the nature and format of exam question papers.

- Plan A : Make a Plan
If you are one of those students who have spent the entire semester frolicking around or, even if you are a student who studied and attended all the lectures throughout the semester, you need a plan. First things first, make a plan of how you are going to complete the revision or even the “first vision” of your syllabus a day before the exam. Divide the topics and allot them specific days and time periods.

- Stick to the Plan/schedule
Making a plan or schedule is very easy. Sticking to it is a whole another story. So, try and stick to your plan or schedule. If you have planned on completing a specific topic on a certain day, do it.
- Be hydrated and caffeinated
In the jinxed up pre-exam atmosphere, don’t forget to keep your body well hydrated, to ease out on the pressure it’s building up from within. Drink lots of water. Also, keep yourself wide awake and concentrated while you are studying, by drinking coffee. You don’t want to get up and start reading the notes/textbook instantly, because you will still be in a drowsy state, hence not able to concentrate on anything. So, a cup of coffee to lift you up from drowsiness!
- Decide, and then stick to it
Don’t randomly start reading a topic or a book. Decide on what you are going to read/ work on and then stick to that topic. Don’t stray away from that topic in some time just because it’s very tough.

- Know your SOS
For any student, it is very important to know his/her SOS i.e. Style of Studying. Decide how do you want to study and what is convenient to you. Do you want to make elaborate notes of everything? Do you want to make shorthand notes on stick ons? Do you want to write and learn? Do you want to make abbreviations and formulas for everything? Find out how do you want to study and what is convenient to your style of studying.
- Don’t copy others
You should not copy others when it comes to studying, not at least immediately before the exams. How are they studying, what material are they using, when are they studying, when are they taking a break, all of this is not your concern. Think about what and how are you going to do things, instead of copying others. Simply because, what may suit them, may not quite suit you.

- A big NO to Social Media
Social Media is our that friend who is always willing to distract us from studying. Once you take a 15 min break for whatsapp and facebook, there’s no coming back. You will end up spending a long stretch of time on social media, thus disrupting your entire study cycle and schedule.
- Eat well
You cannot risk eating the spicy, junk food or snacks that you are really craving for, 10 days before the exam and then falling sick, can you? Nope, you most definitely cannot. Eat light and healthy food which won’t make you feel sleepy and lazy because of its greasiness. Also, don’t go long stretches without eating anything. Keep munching dry fruits, nutrition bars, quinoa bars etc.
- All study and no play make one a dull person!
Yes, you have to study most of the times but, do not be neck deep in books 24×7. Go for a walk, read a book, or do something to refresh and recharge your brain which is dulled out after hours of cramming and reading. Again, no social media included here because then it will just take over your time of studying too because it is addictive like that.

- It’s not the end
Yes, scoring good is important. Yes, this particular exam is important. But no, you cannot think of a piece of paper as the end of the world. It won’t decide your worth and it is not the end.
