Trump at NATO Summit: At the NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands, President Donald Trump hailed the news that most alliance members have agreed to raise their respective defense spending budgets from 2 percent to 5 of gross domestic product.
“When the allies reach this number, it will add more than $1 trillion a year. Think of that 1 trillion per year to our common defense. And this is a monument really to victory, but it's a monumental win for the United States because we were carrying much more than our fair share. . . .But this is big win for Europe and for actually Western civilization.”
“Europe stepping up to take more responsibility for its security will help prevent future disasters like the horrible situation with Russia and Ukraine,” declared President Trump.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte affirmed the necessity that NATO member states increase their defense spending, saying, “We have to keep ourselves safe from our adversaries, but also because it is fair to equalize with the United States. With this percent, the Europeans and the Canadians will equalize their defense spending with the United States.”
With regard to the successful bombing raids on Iran’s three nuclear sites, President Trump read aloud part of a brand-new assessment from the Atomic Energy Commission of Israel.
“The devastating US strike on Fordow destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable. It was devastated. We assess that the American strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities [have] set back Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons for many years to come. This achievement can continue indefinitely if Iran does not get access to nuclear material.”
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed the destructive nature of the bombs dropped on Iran’s nuclear sites. These bombs “landed precisely where they were supposed to, so it was a flawless mission, flawless right down where we knew they needed to enter. And given the 30,000 pounds of explosives and capability of those munitions, it was devastation underneath Fordow and the amount of munitions, 6 per location.”
