Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, has recently landed a new job at a start-up venture named Phia, founded by his youngest daughter, Phoebe Gates, and her Stanford roommate, Sophia Kianni. Bill Gates shared a post on his LinkedIn announcing that he has joined the world of start-ups once again—this time as a customer support representative for Phia, an AI-powered fashion start-up.

Phia is a mobile application designed to make shopping quicker and more efficient. It enables users to compare prices across over 40,000 online retailers, featuring both new and second hand clothing options. Bill Gates called the start up venture truly inspiring, as it allows us to rethink how to meet customers where they are. His involvement with the customer experience team shows his support for his daughter’s project.

Gates praised Phia for challenging conventional online shopping methods and for promoting more alternative, sustainable approaches.

He worked as part of Phia’s customer support team for a day, an experience that reminded him of the importance of staying connected to the front lines. He wrote: “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how technology can make systems more efficient, equitable, and accessible. But I’ve learned over the years that the best way to understand how something works—or where it breaks—is to go straight to the people using it.”

He shares that he is looking forward to return to the start-up phase of a business and writes, “Hopefully won't break anything (no promises)” [Rh/VS]
