Indian actor, producer, and global icon Priyanka Chopra recently came under fire for her food preferences while promoting her new action-comedy film Heads of State, starring John Cena and Idris Elba.
At the world premiere of Heads of State, held in New York, Chopra played Perolike's iconic game of “This or That,” where she had to pick food items that she prefers more from across the globe.
Among the questions—which included a variety of food items ranging from guacamole (Mexican dip/spread), hummus (Middle-Eastern spread), and the classic burger to Indian cuisines like samosa, chicken tikka masala, and vada pav—Priyanka Chopra’s answers in the supposedly fun and quirky game created quite a stir, as many felt that her response was hypocritical.
The comments section of Perolike’s Instagram page filled up with opinions on how the actor picking a hot dog over vada pav was shocking and evasive.
When asked to choose between a hot dog and vada pav—the popular street food from Maharashtra—she answered, “I love vada pav, but hot dogs are my weakness.”
Priyanka Chopra expressing that a hot dog is her weakness, even though her love for vada pav is still there, generated some tension among her fans, and comments started pouring in from across the world.
The trolls that were directed toward the Bulgari ambassador included remarks on how the actress was responding so that her American fans wouldn't get offended. Her picking an American dish over a staple food from her own country was seen as a bogus attempt to pretend to “fit in,” according to netizens.

Some even dug up a past reference from Kareena Kapoor Khan on Koffee with Karan, where she tells Priyanka, “Don’t forget your roots.”
Some defended Chopra by stating that, “God forbid someone has preferences that don't align with yours.”
The Heads of State star’s short interaction in the “This or That” segment started a discourse on how a person’s personal preference is getting slammed as hypocrisy, fake, and shocking.
Is it really an act of hypocrisy—or simply an independent choice?
