Govt approves Pro Poor Tourism Development Project in Uttar Pradesh

The Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project that aims to improve the condition of the poor people living in Uttar Pradesh has been cleared by the government.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation told Rajya Sabha today that the project has been approved by the Screening Committee of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.

The minister said that the project has subsequently been presented to the World Bank for financial assistance of $210 million.

The objective of the project is elevating the downtrodden from poverty and improving their standard of living through increasing income opportunities by undertaking tourism development activity.

The project will obtain resources from advisory and technical assistance and financing for institutional strengthening, asset rehabilitation, infrastructure and services along the Buddhist Circuit and Braj Agra Corridor.
