New Delhi: In its report submitted on Tuesday, an expert group constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs last December has proposed setting up of a new Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center.

The Cyber Center would be linked to the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) and Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS).

The new center will safeguard the government's official communication networks from outside attacks. It may also come up with applications to monitor the activities related to the Ministries of Home, External Affairs, Defense and other government organizations on social media platforms.

The report titled "Roadmap for Effectively Tackling Cyber Crimes in the Country" has also advised the government to reduce the dependence on foreign servers and to ensure one secured gateway for all government communication.

The report has also suggested changes to the Evidence Act, a public awareness campaign, sensitization of the states regarding the issue, setting up of cyber forensic laboratories in the states, and international cooperation in the field.
