Thiruvanthpuram: A criminal case was registered against Vellapally Natesan for his 'hate speech'. The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam General Secretary said that only the Muslims get due assistance from the government when they die and one should embrace death as a Muslim to get those benefits.

His comments came following the Kerala government's decision to provide financial assistance to the family of an auto driver who died while trying to save two workers from a sewage canal.

Vellapally Natesan alleged that the auto driver's sacrifice was acknowledged because he was a Muslim. BJP, who was his party ally in recent civic polls distanced themselves from the controversy.

However, Natesan took the route of social network and said through his Facebook post that Noushad, the guy who lost his life, is an inspiration to all and he prays for his soul. He added that his only intention was to attract government's attention for its failure to rush assistance to the family of the army youth who died fighting terrorists.

He further claimed that media distorted his comments.

It is a different matter whether his speech was interpreted wrong or not but this has become a daily affair in Indian politics where a controversy is made by leaders out of a tragic event simply to reap political benefits.

A common person anyway gets attention only when something really bad or big happens, but even that is misused by the political leaders.

This incidence should have been about the harmony between the citizens of India irrespective of their religion, but somehow leaders managed to turn it upside down.

Not only it is a disrespect to Naushad and his act but also the ones in those names Natesan made this comment.

The public sentiment was with the youth and maybe that forced Natesan to do the damage control.
