US Authorities arrest 20-year-old Ohio man for Trying to Join Islamic State Terrorist Group and supporting overseas Jihad

November 8, 2016: U.S. authorities have arrested a 20-year-old Ohio man for allegedly conspiring to join Islamic State militants.

Aaron Travis Daniels of Columbus faces a charge of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Daniels, also known as Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusef, was arrested as he tried to board a plane. Authorities said his ultimate destination was Libya.

According to the criminal complaint, Daniels sent $250 in January to "an ISIS operative" and had communicated his commitment to violent overseas jihad.

Investigators said there was no reason to believe Daniels was trying to recruit others.

The complaint alleges that Daniels set up email addresses and a social media account using aliases and expressed his interest in violent jihad and traveling overseas in various communications.
