Superstar Aamir Khan’s Upcoming Film ‘Dangal’ not to Release in Pakistan, say distributors

December 20, 2016: Cinemas in Pakistan started screening Indian movies from December 19 but superstar Aamir Khan's upcoming film "Dangal" will not be released in Pakistan, according to PTI report.

The report is contrary to some other media reports which said that the movie 'Dangal' will have a theatrical screening in Pakistan.

Indian movies in Pakistan began screening yesterday after lifting the two months self-imposed suspension following the Uri terror attack which increased the Indo-Pak tensions and cross-border firing incidents.

According to PTI report, "The cinema owners across Pakistan have suffered about Rs 150 million loss and some 100 employees lost their jobs since the non-screening of Indian movies."

There were reports that Aamir's biographical sports-drama will also be released in the neighboring country. However, the spokesperson of the distributors of the film denied the fact and confirmed that "Dangal" will not be releasing in Pakistan and also said, "any news reports to the contrary are false."

"Dangal", which is all set to release on December 23 in India. It is based on the life of ace wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
