Beauty Filters on Alipay to Face Scan Payments: Report

NewsGram Desk

Chinese retail giant Alibaba's e-wallet affiliate Alipay is working to add beauty filters when users pay with its face recognition system.

The change comes shortly after a Sina Technology poll found that 60 per cent of respondents think next-gen payment systems make them look ugly. Alipay announced the update on Weibo and the company plans to bring the feature to retail stores within a week, the Engadget reported on Friday quoting TechCrunch.

"We are going to make you look even prettier than with a beauty camera. I bet you'll be impressed," Alipay had written on Weibo.

The new feature has been brought to life to address complaints that facial recognition machines apparently make people look ugly.

The chase of beauty in China has spawned a handful of movers and shakers in the Internet space, from Hong Kong-listed selfie-app maker Meitu to plastic surgery marketplace So-Young that recently raised $180 million from a Nasdaq public listing, according to the TechCrunch report. (IANS)
