Dr. Komal Verma, an assistant professor in the department of Geology at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), has been asked to work as a micropalaeontologist on the prestigious International Ocean Discovery Programme (IODP) Expedition 397 in the Atlantic Ocean from October to December 2022.
According to a spokeswoman for BHU, she will be representing India in this expedition and will be doing research onboard the 'JOIDES RESOLUTION' alongside international scientists from 17 nations, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Japan, China, and others. His multinational team will look into the possibilities of marine energy resources.
Through worldwide cooperation with famous shipboard scientists, her involvement in this future expedition will give an unparalleled chance for advanced research and instruction in ocean science at international standards to the institution and nation.

The laboratory of the BHU Department of Geology, which works in the fields of oceanography and micropalaeontology, is the centre for the research of global oceanic and climatic change, as well as its influence on marine evolution and species, according to the spokesman.
Prof Arun Deo Singh supervises a number of IODP programmes that are taking place here.
Dr. Verma's selection is a huge honour not only for herself but also for Banaras Hindu University, he said, because IODP is the world's most prominent and preeminent international organisation dedicated to advanced ocean research and home to the world's most technologically sophisticated research vessel.
The scientists that will take part are chosen from international groupings of marine scientific professionals.
