You wanted to learn something new at the convenience of your home. After thorough research, you got yourself enrolled in an online training. You had everything planned out, but the outcome isn’t what you had in mind. To help you avoid some of the common mistakes that students make and yield the best possible outcome from the training, we have listed few things you could do.

1. Timetable:

The biggest perk online training has to offer is the flexibility. You can pursue it at your own
convenience, but it is essential to realise that it should be used as an advantage rather than a disadvantage.  Students after enrolling start procrastinating and end up not finishing the training. So, to avoid that, it essential to break down each module and make a timeline for respective modules on the basis of the content. Apart from making it a seamless journey, it would also help you in realising the progress made and the journey you are yet to cover.

2. Practice:

The knowledge that you gain can only be effective only if you practice. So, to ensure that
you gain an in-depth knowledge about the subject, it is quintessential to practise all that you have learned and thus put to the test your abilities and skills attained by completing the test and assignments on time. You could even browse the internet for more study material or make a problem statement of your own that you can solve using the skills attained.

3. Research and seek answers:

While learning, it is normal to have doubts, but it is equally important that you seek
answers for things you didn’t quite understand. A thorough research about the and jot every doubt you have and then reach out to support or the subject matter expert for the answers. The more unresolved doubts you have, the less you will learn. So, remember, you are an anonymous user to the platform so your doubts as frivolous they may be, can be asked without hesitation.

4. Practical applications:

So, you have learned all that you wanted to but how to put them to the test? Well, that is
where practical applications come. The new perspective that you gained from the learnings
should be put to the test by figuring out better ways of evaluating a problem. To look for
problems or ideas that could be solved using the application of the training. The knowledge
gained from the online training will help put you a step ahead of your peers and a certificate at the successful completion of the training will help validate that as well.

Initially, things might be a little difficult to manage but remember that you have already taken the hardest step – realizing the need to upskill yourself and enrolling in a training.  During the training, if you ever start to jitter, remember why you joined the training and what you wish to gain because once you have a clear sight of the goal, there isn’t much that would deter you from your path.

“Demolition, desperation, and depression. These three words became synonymous with my life after the first year of college. Being a computer science student with absolutely no coding background meant that I needed to put in double the efforts. However, when it came to coding, I failed thrice in exams and got backlogs in subjects like Programming, Data Structures, and Advanced Programming. I had virtually given up on coding and wanted to quit the stream for some other option. Amidst such depression, I stumbled upon Android. It fascinated me, but I knew I could not do anything as my programming basics were not clear. When all seemed lost, a friend suggested online training. I did some online research and enrolled for an Android training.

The training was divided into 4 modules, each having a test of its own. I started off quite slow, learning and practising the basics of Java first and later moving to Android. I was also attending summer classes at the college, studying to clear my backlogs. I had always thought that I could do any free course online or watch videos on YouTube – after all, everywhere on the internet, the content would be same, but I realized that wasn’t the case after a couple of days into the training. The content was tailored for learning and focused on the basics and then gradually escalated, covering everything that any beginner needed. It answered many questions and doubts that I had for a long time. Slowly but steadily, the training helped me improve my coding and helped me in understanding the concepts being taught in the summer classes.

The flexibility offered by the online training was another advantage. I could study for as long as I wanted according to my own schedule which helped me in managing the college work. The provided support was also great! I topped all my backlog exams of coding and within 2 months of completing the training, I developed two apps which are available on Play Store. After successfully developing the first app, my interest in coding increased significantly. I started devoting a lot of hours on this regularly and topped the subsequent exams in the next semester! I started getting noticed for my coding skills and even got offers to work with a couple of startups. Now, I have done another online training and added yet another skill to my arsenal.”

This is what Ankush Sharma, a student pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun has to share about his tryst with online training and how his life took a U-turn for the best.

To begin with, what is online training?

Unlike the conventional learning in a classroom, online training makes the content available for students digitally. Students can learn online, anywhere and anytime. Instead of using physical copies of books it uses visual content and gamification. It also offers flexibility to help you learn as per your timeline and availability.

An online training helps in laying a strong foundation while providing you with an in-depth knowledge of the subject and instilling a confidence that will help you crack any exam or interview. There are millions of Ankush out there who have been at the brunt of our education system, which focuses more on marks and less on learnings. This conventional approach is getting obsolete and with time students have been progressing towards online learning to help seek support and understand topics better. It is time you decide, what would you like to be, the victim or the victor?
