Modi in Central Asia: PM meets Iranian president

Ufa (Russia): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the BRICS and SCO summits.

Modi, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, held his first bilateral on Thursday with Rouhani.pm-modi-new_650x400_41436029978

The talks with Rouhani come as the five permanent members of the UNSC and Germany and Iran are thrashing out details of an agreement to curb Tehran’s nuclear programme in Vienna.

“Advancing a significant partnershp. PM @narendramodi meets President @HassanRouhani on sidelines of BRICS/SCO Summits,” tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

Earlier, he interacted with Indian CEOs and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

“BRICS for Business. Indian CEOs interact with PM @narendramodi and FM @arunjaitley first thing in the morning,” the MEA spokesperson said.

Modi is in Ufa to attend the Seventh BRICS summit and the 15th SCO summit. India is set to be made permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off the world’s first diesel to electric converted locomotive in Varanasi.

Modi was received at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport by Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Mahendra Nath Pandey and other senior officials.

This is Modi’s 17th visit to the temple town after becoming its representative in 2014. VOA

After the flag-off from the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) campus, he also interacted with differently abled persons.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to spend around six hours in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, during which he will launch projects worth Rs 3,300 crore.

He will also visit the Sant Ravidas temple.
