Journalist Abhishek Upadhyay Moves Supreme Court Alleging UP Police Harassment, Fake FIR Over Reporting on Ram Mandir Donation Theft

JOURNALIST ABHISHEK UPADHYAY has moved the Supreme Court challenging an FIR against him related to a road-rage incident in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. For the past few months, Upadhyay has gained prominence for breaking the Ram Mandir donation theft story. On his YouTube channel Top Secret, he has been conducting insider interviews and breaking exclusive investigative stories through his sources about the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement.

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, in a series of posts on X, Upadhyay alleged that the Ghaziabad Police had not disclosed the proper details of the charges against him, while harassing him and his family members late at night. He also claimed that this is a targeted attack against him for reporting on the Ram Mandir donations row. On August 24, the journalist further claimed that when he accessed the details of the FIR from his sources it was full of “fabricated” events and “fictional characters.”

Supreme Court to Hear Abhishek Upadhyay’s Petition

The journalist challenged the Ghaziabad Police’s FIR at the apex court. The plea would be heard tomorrow on August 25, 2026, by a bench of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, Justices Joymala Bagchi and V Mohana on account of a few errors to be rectified in the petition.

In his plea, Upadhayay has mentioned that the FIR is a way to harass him and curtail his independent journalism. He alleges that the copy of the complaint was not presented to him and he was not informed of what charges were lodged against him either. The journalist further claims that the police were pressuring nearby shopkeepers to delete CCTV footage from the alleged time period of the road rage incident.

Upadhyay seeks either quashing of the FIR from the Supreme Court or the case be transferred to another investigative agency other than the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Journalist Claims Harassment Over Ram Mandir Reporting

Abhishek Upadhyay was one of the first journalists to break and bring insider information on the Ram Mandir Donation theft case. According to him, the recent FIR against him over an alleged road rage incident is a way to harass and threaten him for speaking up against the Temple management. In an X post, Upadhyay claimed that the Ghaziabad Police had visited his residence and questioned his family members. He claims it was part of the continuing pattern of harassment against his family.

The journalist alleges that despite repeatedly asking for a copy of the FIR, he was only provided with a random page that didn’t even mention the sections invoked or the details of the alleged offence. He further said that the police later sent him a copy of an older FIR against him in Lucknow, which was unrelated to the recent complaint.

In an interview with The Wire, Upadhyay said, “I broke the news of Ram Mandir theft on June 7, since then, these complaints, FIRs have become routine for me. I am exposing their corruption, that is their problem. In the garb of Hindu-Muslim politics, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing massive corruption in government departments.”

He alleges that the police are mixing up these different cases registered against him without giving proper details of the Ghaziabad case. Upadhyay also claims that the authorities tried to detain at night without even informing him about the charges.

The Ram Mandir donation theft remains a high-profile embezzlement case allegedly involving irregularities from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust— the Temple management responsible for managing the donations. So far eight accused have been arrested in the case while the Supreme Court is monitoring the ongoing investigation.
