Efforts to end a 19-day partial government shutdown stalled Wednesday when President Trump walked out of White House talks with congressional Democrats. Trump’s request for nearly $6 billion in funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall triggered what is now the second longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

A New York Times report says President Donald Trump told aides on several occasions last year that he wanted to withdraw the United States from NATO, which has been in place since 1949. While President Trump has gone back and forth on in the issue in public, foreign policy experts say the move would weaken the alliance and embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long criticized NATO.
