Cement sector to be a major driver of India`s growth: DIPP Secretary

New Delhi: Addressing the 53rd Annual Session of Cement Manufacturers'Association(CMA), Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion(DIPP) pointed to the importance of cement industry in India`s infrastructural development.

He speculated that the cement sector needs to grow at a rate of 20-25 per cent to meet the demands of Indian economy. Referring to the recent Budget`s focus on infrastructure, Kant said that it would give an impetus to the cement industry to develop.

The cement industry has a growth rate of about 8 per cent in the first three quarters of the current financial year.
