Former Supreme Court Judge, Markandey Katju urged civil liberty organizations worldwide to appeal Indian government for the release of 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Zaibunnisa Kazi.

Katju said that the evidence against her were weak and showed concern about her ailing health. He also said that while Kazi was arrested along with Sanjay Dutt, she was convicted under anti-terrorist law, TADA, while the film star was booked under relatively moderate Arms Act.

He is to take up the issue with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Katju had taken up the issue previously in 2013 when he had sent a written request to the president for the release of both Zaibunnisa Kazi and Sanjay Dutt.

The 72 year old convict suffers from numerous medical complications and she requires medical attention.
