India to get maritime museum to showcase 5,000-year-old shipping heritage

To showcase India's age-old maritime heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for plan to build a top- notch maritime museum.

While meeting a delegation from the maritime sector led by Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari, the Prime Minister said, "India's maritime heritage goes back nearly 5,000 years, with the oldest known port being Lothal."

An official statement stated, he has urged all stakeholders to work together to establish a world-class maritime museum that would showcase the glorious aspect of India's history.

Tapping India's great potential in shipbuilding, Modi emphasized to make it a part of 'Make in India' initiative.
