Abu Dhabi: A team of maxillofacial surgeons or head and neck specialists in an Abu Dhabi-based hospital, has rebuilt a teenager's jaw using 3D technology after removing a tumour.

A mirrored image of the 16-year-old boy's jaw was created, which helped the doctors transplant a bone from his hip to his face through micro-surgery, Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.

"Our patient was in the hospital for only nine days and is now at home, enjoying life," doctor John Devine, who led the maxillofacial team, said.

The boy's father believes that although the experience of finding a lump on his son's face was traumatising, he is happy with the success of the surgery.

The team has performed ten major facial and head reconstructive surgeries since January 2015, all of which have been successful.
