After the colonization of countries and states, Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the Moon has announced a 'master plan' to colonize Mars by 2040.

On August 27, Aldrin in association with the Florida Institute of Technology announced "a master plan" to set up a human settlement on Mars by 2040. He envisions using Mars's moons, Phobos and Deimos, as steppingstones for astronauts. Aldrin wants his mission to complete by 2039 which shall mark the 70th anniversary of his historic July 20,1969 walk on the Moon with Neil Armstrong.

The astronaut will be a research professor and senior faculty adviser at FIT.

"I am proud of my time at NASA with the Gemini 12 and Apollo programmes but I hope to be remembered more for my contributions to the future," said Aldrin. The latter has been planning missions to Mars since 1985, with a concept known as the Aldrin Mars Cycler, a "spacecraft system with perpetual cycling orbits between Earth and Mars."

This trip is expected to last 10 years.
