Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a metro line on Sunday which connects Badarpur in Delhi and Faridabad in Haryana. A Rs 700-crore project would extend the metro connectivity up to Ballabhgarh, said the Prime Minister while addressing a 'Gati Pragati' rally on Sunday.

Modi said that Faridabad and Gurgaon needed to be further connected through the Metro network.

The 13.8-km Badarpur-Mujesar Metro corridor has nine stations — Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar.

The new corridor, which took Rs 2,500 crores to construct, is expected to be used by about 1.95 lakh passengers everyday by the end of the year.

The Prime Minister stated that with the inauguration of this metro line, the rush of weekend tourists to Haryana would increase which would create an upsurge in local employment.

The facility would ease commutation for people who rely on shared auto-rickshaws and buses to travel the distance from Badarpur metro station to Faridabad.

The Prime Minister said that the electrical requirements of this metro corridor will be powered by solar energy and panels for the same have been set up at all the stations.

Modi commuted on the newly inaugurated line from Janpath in Delhi to Bata Chowk in Faridabad.

The Prime Minister called Haryana his "second home" as he had spent most of his time there after Gujarat. He stated that he had travelled the streets of Faridabad on a scooter even before he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
