Lucknow: In the wake of growing opposition chorus against his government on various issues including law and order and communal violence, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav held a meeting with top government and police officials to review the situation.

Asking officials not to spare people out to spread chaos in society, he said instructions had already been issued to crack down on mischief-makers and anti-social elements.

Yadav underlined that maintaining law and order was a top priority of his government and that it was something on which the government could not compromise.

The Uttar Pradesh government, he added, was not only committed to safety and security of citizens and maintenance of law and order but also to all-round and comprehensive development of the state.

He said law and order in a district was the prime responsibility of the district magistrate and the district police chief and warned that anyone found wanting in his or her duties would be sternly dealt with.
