New Delhi: In a bid to provide various government certificates online, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government has formally launched its much awaited e-District project on Monday.
The AAP's move scripted another success story for the party as it had pledged in its election campaigns to provide timely, hassle-free, comfortable, and updated services to the people of Delhi.
The e-District project also makes Delhi the first and the only state to digitalize the entire system related to government service. The project facilitates citizens to apply online and check its status.
The portal allows citizens in Delhi to apply for various government certificates including birth, death, marriage, minority, income among others.
According to government statistics, as many as 9,49,500 citizens visited the portal and 1,15,450 certificate applications were processed through it since its test launch in early November. The government aims to add services related to ration cards, the Social Welfare Department, the enrolment and registration of Civil Defence Volunteers and Cinema Licensing to the portal by the end of this month.
A pilot run of the project was tried in early November when the move got an overwhelming response. While 1,15,450 applications were processed, over 9,50,000 people visited the portal.
Launching the project Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed satisfaction over the project and lauded the Revenue Department for successfully completing the project on time.
"Our module of the e-District project and simplified processes for the issuance of various types of certificates can also be helpful for the other States," Kejriwal said at the launch function.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, however, warned the concerned official to remain vigilant against any corrupt practices using the project.
There were allegations of corrupt practices in the process of procuring certificates. There were complaints that one had to take the refuge of touts to get certificates.
But the implementation of the portal will do away with the corrupt practices and make things hassle-free for the citizens.
