Kolkata: In a bid to save wildlife from the adverse effect of climate change and promote poultry farming, the West Bengal Veterinary Alumni Association organized a two-day seminar at Mohit Moitra Mancha on 23rd and 24th December.
Dr. Jawaharlal Chakraborty, Ex-director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, Govt. of West Bengal told Newsgram.com that the government is considering to provide assistance to people to encourage poultry farming.
"All families under the below poverty line would get financial assistance to start poultry farming", he mentioned.
"Basically, we will provide them with ducks and chicken and we will build breeding grounds in front of their houses where they can start the farming," Chakraborty said.
"The idea behind this is to generate employment among rural people and promote poultry farming in the state," he said.

The seminar also stressed on the need for spreading awareness regarding the deforestation issue. Notably, smuggling and illegal tree felling have become rampant in north Bengal. This has led to the disappearance of many rare species.
Speaking on the issue, Chakraborty said, "the aim is to identify groups involved in the illegal business and take stringent measures against them."
He further said that proposals had been sent to the West Bengal government to provide small security bodies which can help in curbing the menace.
Several luminaries including Sri Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal Health University Dr Bhabatosh Biswas, and milk commissioner of West Bengal Shri Dibakar Mukhopadhyay attended the conference.
Notably, West Bengal Veterinary Alumni Association ( WBVAA ) has also launched a facebook page to promote and spread awareness over social media on forest and wildlife conservation.
