Varanasi: Dr. Naheed Abidi, a Sanskrit scholar, who is known for his books like 'Sanskrit Sahitya mein Rahim' and 'Devalayasya Deepah' was presented the Yash Bharati Award (of UP government) on Tuesday, at a function held in Lucknow.
The Yash Bharti award was started by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav during his period as Chief Minister. The awards got terminated after Mayawati came to power. But the government re established the award with an increase in the reward money from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, after the SP came to power again.
Dr. Naheed Abidi, a Padmashri recipient as well, has been adding to Sanskrit literature with her creations. She exhibited her gratitude to the professors of Sanskrit and Persian who motivated her to follow Sanskrit learning. She percieves that Sanskrit is a rich language and has the ability to encourage euphony and peace in the society.
Her book, 'Davalayasya Deepah' is the sanskrit translation of a book called 'Charag-i-Dair' which is written by great Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Galib. Another book of her 'Sanskrit Sahitya Mein Rahim' is about the great poet Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana.
She was also invited by the eminent personality and the late APJ Abdul Kalam to the Rashtrapati Bhawan in 2007.
