Meet 6-Pack Band: India’s First Transgender Music Group

Earlier, being a transgender is a taboo, but now that has changed. Although that thinking exists even in nowadays, but transgenders have started their journey towards success. Recently, India's first transgender band, the 6-pack band won the Cannes Grand Prix Glass Lion award at Cannes film festival.

"Since the time we've come together, this project has been nothing less than a dream," said Komal Jagtap, one of the six band members to the Hindustan Times.

This award is given to the work that tends to shift the focus of the society and highlight the impacts of injustice, gender inequality and imbalance. 30 bands participated in Cannes festival, including 4 bands from India, but the 6-pack band won the title for showing the hidden talent present in the transgender communities.

The band and the Y- film won the Webby Award, which is the highest internet award for Public Service and Activism Category.

This was the second highest award given to the 6-pack band for raising their voice against the discriminations and prejudices regarding the transgender community. The band was launched by Y-films and won the award in collaboration with Brooke Bond, Red Label and Mindshare Mumbai. The campaign was named as 'Hum Hain Happy' which was a cover for Pharrell Williams 'Happy'. This single title track had gained more than 1.4 million views on YouTube after 6 weeks of its release.

This band has also released 5 music videos on Y-films official YouTube channel that features famous actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Kapoor. One of the videos also features the famous singer Sonu Nigam and Zanai Bhosle (grand-daughter of Asha Bhosle).

After winning the award, the group is ready for the Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer 'Sultan'. Shammer Tondon composed the track 'Raula Paye Gaya' and the band will be seen humming the song alongside Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
