A distressing murder of a 72-year-old US citizen in Punjab has gripped everyone tightly. Rupinder Kaur Pandher from Seattle, USA, was brutally murdered in Ludhiana, Punjab, by a UK-based NRI named Charanjit Singh Grewal.
The Punjab police revealed on 17 September 2025 that Grewal allegedly lured Rupinder by promising to marry her and murdered her with the help of a contract killer back in July 2025.
After reaching India to marry her lover, Rupinder mysteriously vanished. Her sister, Kamal Kaur Khaizah, noticed her disappearance after her phone was switched off when she travelled to Kila Raipur village, Ludhiana.

Khaizah informed the US embassy in New Delhi about her sister’s disappearance on 28 July 2025 after being unable to contact her for more than three days. The family of the victim found about Rupinder’s suspected murder last week
In a recent revelation, investigators discovered that Charanjit Grewal hired a killer for contract, Sukhjeet Singh alias Sonu, to kill her. The police stated that Sonu killed the victim and received the order directly from Grewal. Grewal reportedly promised Sonu a whopping amount of Rs 50 lakh to carry out the murder.
The investigation disclosed that the motive behind Rupinder’s murder was financial. She had transferred a large amount of money to Grewal and his brother, assuming it was meant for the wedding. The money was transferred to their account before visiting India.
According to the Punjab police, the contract killer and main suspect in Rupinder’s murder is Sukhjeet Singh alias Sonu from Kila Raipur, Punjab. Assistant Commissioner of Police Harjinder Singh Gill stated that Sonu has confessed to murdering the 72-year-old US woman.
He admitted to burning her body in order to get rid of all evidence of the murder on July 12-13, 2025(date is not confirmed). The contract killer burned her body in the storeroom of his house with diesel.
After the remains of her body cooled down, he disposed of them in a drain. The police have discovered parts of her skeleton and have sent them further for forensic tests to confirm the identity. ACP Harjinder Gill stated that the case is also about "horrifying betrayal and trust”
Deputy Inspector General Satinder Singh from Ludhiana Police Range, Punjab, affirmed that Grewal is a confirmed suspect in Rupinder’s murder. Police are making continuous efforts to apprehend both Grewal and his brother, who are absconding in the Punjab murder case. [Rh/VS]
