Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, laid the foundation stone for a war memorial in Ambala on Monday. The memorial is being constructed to honor the martyrs of India's first War of Independence – the uprising of 1857.

The memorial will be spread in an area of 22 acres and will house facilities like library, conference hall, food court, an auditorium and various other modern facilities. Six theme parks will also be developed in the war memorial, which will display glorious Indian history before the arrival of the East India Company, the significance of Ambala in the 1857 revolution and its impact on the entire nation.

According to a news report, Khattar said, "The people, especially the youth, would get inspiration from the sacrifices made by our brave martyrs. Such unique memorial would also lend Amblala a new identity."

He also declared that a 'Shaheedi Mela' will be celebrated on 10th May each year at the memorial.
