On Monday, Draupadi Murmu took oath as the ninth governor of Jharkhan at Raj Bhawan in front of Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Virendra Singh. She succeeded Syed Ahmad, who has been shifted to Manipur.

The ceremony was attended by many people, including the Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

Murmu started her political career in the year 2000 by winning the election from Odisha's Mayurbanj district. She was re-elected in 2005 from the same assembly and became a minister of state for finance and transport.

She graduated from R.B. Women's College Bhubaneshwar in 1979. Thereafter, she worked as a clerk in the state secretariat for some years before joining politics.

She was also the vice-president of Rairangpur Notified Area Council from 1996-98. In May 2013, she was appointed as the district president of BJP in Mayurbhanj.
