Patna: Lack of toilet facilities compelled a newly-wed woman in a Bihar village to stay back at her parents' home, an official said on Thursday.

"Hours after the marriage was solemnised on Wednesday, the bride, Puja Kumari, a 10th pass, was shocked to know that there was no toilet in the house. Puja told her husband that she will not leave her parents' home unless he built a toilet at his house," a district official said.

Puja's husband is a teacher in government run school in his Panchayat.

"It was decided in the Panchayat meeting of the village that Puja will go to her in-laws house in Mohammadpur village of Saran district only after a toilet is constructed at home," a police officer said.

Last month in a similar case, a woman in Vaishali district of Bihar divorced her husband due to the absence of a toilet in the house.
