India, Pakistan trade heavy fire on border

Jammu: India and Pakistan traded heavy fire on the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday after Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at BSF positions.

"Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at BSF (Border Security Force) outposts in Pargwal and Kana Chak areas of Jammu district today (Saturday) morning," a police officer said.

"They used automatic weapons and heavy machine guns. We retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons," he added.

The exchanges are under way in the area.

Before the firing exchanges began, BSF personnel defused a bomb on the Indian side in Pallanwalla area of Akhnoor sector in the district.
