The Kolkata tram started its journey in 1873, for the convenience of the Europeans and to carry merchandise from Sealdah station.

Few years later, in 1900, Kolkata got its first electric tram and it has since become the lifeline of the city.

With the passage of time, this age old transport system has evolved and now runs on 67 routes, which spread across the city and suburbs.

The Kolkata tram serves not only the local people but also provides some special services for tourists; and special services on special occasions.

This tram travels with its century old heritage on the lanes and bylanes of the city, connecting the past and progressing to the future.
