Jharkhand recommends Ranchi SSP’s name for President’s medal

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government on Wednesday decided to recommend the name of Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, who was injured in a gun battle with Maoist rebels on the outskirts of Ranchi, for the President's medal.

"Chief Minister Raghubar Das has given his consent to recommend name of injured Ranchi SSP for the President's medal," an official told IANS.

The state government has also decided to confer the state gallantry award on the SSP, his driver Rumul Sawaiya and bodyguard Faizal," the official said.

The chief minister paid homage to the slain driver.

The state government handed over a cheque of Rs.10 lakh to the family of the slain driver and decided to bear the expenses of the education of his children.

One of the family members of the driver will get a government job on compassionate grounds.

On Tuesday, the Ranchi SSP was injured and his driver was killed in a gun battle with Maoists at Dulmi village on the outskirts of state capital Ranchi.
