India and Afghanistan sign agreement on legal and judicial spheres

In order to strengthen the legal and judicial spheres, the Union Cabinet has given approval to the agreement on legal and judicial cooperation between India and Afghanistan.

The agreement includes features such as service of judicial orders, summons and other legal and judicial documents or processes and taking of evidence through request, execution of judgments and settlements.

The provisions of the agreement are in conformity with the provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 and the Arbitration and Cancellation Act, 1996.

The agreement will be beneficial to the citizens of both the countries. It shall come into effect on the 30th day after the exchange of instrument of Ratification. It shall remain in force until terminated by either party by giving six months' notice.
