The Pakistan Rangers insisted on using the terms like "working boundary" and "ceasefire violations" in the joint record that was signed. The Rangers use the term "Working Boundary" to refer to the International Border (IB) between India and Pakistan in the Jammu & Kashmir region. Similarly, they also wanted to use the term "ceasefire violations" and include the instances of firing by India across the IB.

But, the BSF was able to prevail over its Pakistani counterparts and the final join record stated "incidents of firing at the borders," as per a press statement signed by both the BSF and the Rangers.

The ET report quoted a home ministry official as saying: "BSF has dominated the battlefield so far and dominated the talks as well."

BSF also managed to bring up the issue of infiltration with the Rangers. The joint statement stated: "India has told Pakistan that in future when we see suspicious movement on the border, we will fire an illumination round from a light pistol or a para bomb as a signal to the Rangers that we are opening fire on the infiltrating terrorists and not on the Rangers. Rangers have agreed on the mechanism which will be followed by a joint post-level meeting next morning. Rangers wanted a 'joint investigation' of all such incidents, the BSF prevailed to use the term 'joint verification'."
