Kolkata: The students of Jadavpur University (JU) held a rally against the issue of the repeated harassment of female PhD students at the hands of male professors, today in the campus.

Somlata Guha, a third year student of Philosophy told NewsGram (NG), "There have been several incidents of female students being manhandled by male professors in the past. This issue crops up very often, especially with the PhD students".

The students vehemently demanded that the authorities should immediately sack the guilty professors, else they would go on an indefinite hunger strike. They also remarked that attending the class with these predators is no less than an embarrassment.

The general secretary of the students' association, Shramon Bannerjee, while speaking to NG said, "The issue of molestation and harassment at the hands of professors has left us all in shame. We will place our demands in front of the vice chancellor and if he doesn't take any action, the students of JU know how to make him act".

The situation in JU is very volatile at present, as students refuse to accept the treatment faced by their the female students at the hands of the male professors. Interacting with NG, the students firmly stated, "Either the VC will ask these professors to step down, or he shall have to resign from his post".
