Odisha touches new high in software exports

Bhubaneswar: Registering a staggering 11 per cent growth against the last corresponding fiscal software exports, Odisha recorded Rs2,564 crore in 2014-15 fiscal, declared the government on Thursday.
"The export turnover of software units registered under Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Bhubaneswar touched Rs. 2,564 crore in 2014-15 with 11 per cent growth," said a release from the Electronics and Information Technology Department.
It said the growth of such exports from Odisha was higher than the national rate since 2006.
While software exports were worth Rs 2,317 crore in 2013-14, IT units in the state exported items worth Rs 1,945 crore in 2012-13 and Rs 1,610 crore in 2011-12, said the release.
The state government hoped that software exports would further increase in the next 2-3 years.
The US, which accounts for 68 per cent of total exports, has remained the top destination for IT exports from Odisha, followed by other countries like Britain, Germany, Australia, China, Canada, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore, UAE and Japan.
According to the release, 45 units contributed to the IT exports from the state during the year 2014-15. Of the 45 units, 44 are in Bhubaneswar and one is in Rourkela.
Large companies contributed 87 percent of the total IT exports, worth Rs 2,232 crore.
