Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Saturday said that it was wrong to kill anyone for eating beef and created a fresh controversy by saying that some Hindus also eat beef.

Lalu said:

"It was wrong to kill a man for eating beef in Dadri (Uttar Pradesh). Everyone is free to consume food items of his choice"

"What happened in Dadri was a communal violence. The BJP is responsible for such violence," the former Bihar chief minister said.

He also asked whether Hindus are not eating meat. The RJD chief said that some of those living in foreign countries or visit abroad eat beef and even in the country, some Hindus eat beef.

"What is the difference between beef and mutton for those who consume meat," Lalu asked, prompting senior BJP leader and Union Minister Griraj Singh to ask him to take back his words.

Lalu also said: "People should not eat beef at all, it is the cause of many diseases and not good for health."

Singh has threatened that BJP will take this issue to the ongoing campaign for Bihar assembly polls if Lalu failed to take back his words.
